MEDIEVAL INSTITUTIONS IN SPAIN
The political structure of the kingdoms was based on three institutions : the monarchy, theCortes and the municipal council.The Cortes were created when the monarchs allowed municipal representatives into the extraordinary Curia, an assembly of nobles and clergy. The Cortes advised the king and sometimes approved laws, but it could not legislate.The castilian kings established a Unitarian Monarchy and were really powerfull due to: they led the ``Reconquista´´and the kings were the owners of the re-conquered lands.In Navarre the Cortes were created in 1231 and were very important. In crown of Aragon:Catalonia had its first Cortes in 1213.Valencia in 1261...
